ADA accessible portable restrooms cost $200 to $400 a day or $120 to $240 a week. The 2010 ADA Standards cap the requirement at 5 percent of each cluster, meaning at least one accessible unit wherever units are grouped, on a firm level approach.
What does the rule actually say?
2010 ADA Standards, section 213.2, Exception 4
Where multiple single user portable toilet or bathing units are clustered at a single location, no more than 5 percent of the toilet units and bathing units at each cluster shall be required to comply with 603.
The requirement is capped at 5 percent of each cluster. In practice that means at least one accessible unit wherever units are grouped, rising to one in twenty on large sites.
An accessible unit also needs the 60 inch turning space required by section 304.3.1 and a firm, level route to the door. A unit dropped on soft grass with no route to it does not comply, whatever the spec sheet says.

What makes a unit compliant on site?
- A firm, level surface. Grass and gravel usually fail the approach requirement.
- An accessible route from the parking or path to the door, not across a curb.
- The 60 inch turning space inside, per section 304.3.1.
- Grab bars and a ground-level entry with no step.
- Placement in the same area as the standard units, not tucked out of the way.
