Event and Wedding Restrooms

Event restroom rental costs $125 to $400 for a standard unit over a weekend, or $200 to $800 per unit for a full event. Trailers run $900 to $3,000 for a weekend. Alcohol service raises the unit count, and every cluster needs an ADA unit.

How many units does an event need?

There is no federal ratio for events. OSHA regulates workers, not guests, so event planning is an estimate rather than a rule. The planner on the home page works from roughly one unit per 50 guests for each four hours, plus 20 percent when alcohol is served, and shows that assumption on the card.

Use the unit calculator for a starting number, then confirm it against the venue.

Where should units be placed?

  • Downwind and out of sight of dining and photography, but not so far that guests walk more than a minute.
  • On firm level ground the service truck can reach with a hose.
  • Lit, if the event runs past dusk. Standard units have no interior lighting.
  • With the ADA unit on a firm, level route rather than across grass.

What about handwashing?

Where food is served, plan a handwashing station rather than sanitizer alone. 29 CFR 1910.141(d)(2) requires soap and towels at a washing facility where that rule applies. Stations run $150 a day. See handwashing and sinks.

Frequently asked questions

How many porta potties do I need for a wedding?

There is no federal ratio for events. A common planning basis is one unit per 50 guests for each four hours, plus about 20 percent when alcohol is served. Confirm the final count with the operator against your venue and timings.

How much does a porta potty cost for a wedding?

$125 to $400 for a standard unit over a weekend, about $250 typical. A restroom trailer, which most couples prefer, runs $900 to $3,000 for the weekend.

When should the units arrive?

The day before, not the morning of. It gives you time to move a unit that has landed in the wrong place and avoids a delivery truck crossing the site during setup.

Do I need an accessible unit at an event?

Where multiple single-user units are clustered, the 2010 ADA Standards cap the requirement at 5 percent of that cluster, which in practice means at least one accessible unit.

Does alcohol really change the count?

Yes, materially. Guests use facilities more often and stay longer, so the planning basis adds roughly 20 percent. Under-ordering here is the most common event mistake.
