Servicing and Cleaning
A service visit costs $30 to $220 and is included weekly on monthly placements. Under ANSI/PSAI Z4.3 weekly service is the baseline for up to 10 users on a 40 hour week. Each visit pumps the 60 to 70 gallon tank and restocks paper.
What happens on a service visit?
- The holding tank, 60 to 70 gallons on a standard unit, is pumped into the service truck.
- Fresh water and deodorizer charge go back in.
- Toilet paper, seat covers and hand sanitizer are restocked.
- Interior surfaces are wiped down and the unit is checked for damage.
- Waste is discharged at a licensed septage receiving station or wastewater treatment plant permitted to accept it.
How often should a unit be serviced?
Weekly is the baseline under ANSI/PSAI Z4.3 for up to 10 users on a 40 hour week. Three things justify more:
- Traffic. More users per unit per week, more visits.
- Heat. Sustained high temperatures accelerate odor sharply.
- Alcohol. Event units serving alcohol fill faster than headcount alone predicts.
On a construction site this is not only comfort. 29 CFR 1926.51(c)(4)(v) requires facilities to be maintained in a sanitary condition, so skipping service is a citable condition rather than a saving.
